NC Stop Torture Now

Historic NCCIT report to launch on September 27, 2018

Posted on September 17, 2018September 22, 2018
Alberto Mora, former Navy General Counsel, testified to NC Commission of Inquiry on Torture on Dec. 1, 2017, at the Raleigh Convention Center.

On September 27, 2018, the non-governmental, citizen-led North Carolina Commission of Inquiry on Torture (NCCIT) will release its groundbreaking report on North Carolina’s involvement in the CIA’s rendition, secret detention, and torture program.

Torture Flights: North Carolina’s Role in the CIA Rendition and Torture Program reveals that North Carolina’s involvement was far greater than previously understood, and that the process of rendition itself was a form of torture and/or cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment. It highlights some of the 49 cases of persons rendered to torture by Aero Contractors, the CIA affiliate based at the Johnston County Airport. The report has nine chapters, a foreword by former U.S. Navy General Counsel Alberto Mora, a short executive summary, and six pages of findings and recommendations.
