Orange County governments call on NC to take action on torture

Posted on January 30, 2019January 31, 2019

In December 2018, the Orange County Commissioners called on North Carolina’s Governor Roy Cooper and Attorney General Josh Stein to hold Aero Contractors accountable for its role in the CIA torture program. So did the Town Council of Chapel Hill and the Carrboro Board of Aldermen.

The resolutions urge the two state leaders to “hold private contractors such as Aero Contractors accountable for involvement in the torture program; enforce state, federal, and international law; stop hosting Aero at public airports to prevent North Carolina from being the home to ‘torture taxis’.”

Orange County has sent its resolution to commissioners in the other 99 North Carolina counties. That includes Johnston County’s commissioners, who steadfastly deny the volumes of evidence of Aero’s role in kidnapping for torture.

The Orange County Commissioners and the Carrboro Aldermen have also sent their resolutions to Governor Cooper and Attorney General Stein.
