Join us in a one-hour vigil and press conference on June 26, a Wednesday. This is UN International Day in Support of Victims of Torture, and Congressman David Price will read the Executive Summary of the NC Commission of Inquiry on Torture report into the Congressional Record on this same day. It is also the one-year anniversary of the Supreme Court decision upholding President Trump’s Muslim ban.
Governor Cooper has done nothing to investigate or even acknowledge the illegal actions of the CIA front company Aero Contractors in transporting at least 49 Muslim men and women to and among overseas torture sites. The Governor has also not been willing to make any statement about NC’s substantial role in the CIA’s torture program. Our vigil to end this official silence will be held outside his offices.
Time: 12:00 noon to 1:00 pm
Place: Governor’s Office, 116 W. Jones St., across the street from the large globe at the Museum of Natural Sciences. Parking is available just east of the NC General Assembly on the south (museum) side of the street.
Sponsoring organizations: NC Stop Torture Now, NC Council of Churches, Raleigh Friends Meeting, Amnesty International Group 213, Movement to End Racism & Islamophobia, Triangle WILPF, Eisenhower Chapter 157 Veterans for Peace, Fr. Charlie Mulholland Catholic Worker House, North Carolina Peace Action, and Progress NC.
